The Ultimate Moving Day Checklist
The exact steps our crews wish every customer knew — so moving day runs like clockwork.
A smooth move isn't luck — it's preparation. After thousands of moves, we've learned that the difference between a stressful day and an easy one comes down to a handful of simple steps. Here's the checklist we'd give a friend.
1–2 weeks before
- Declutter first. The cheapest way to move something is to not move it. Donate, sell, or toss what you don't need — you pay to move everything else.
- Get your supplies. Boxes, tape, markers, and bubble wrap. Need packing done for you? We offer professional packing — just add it to your booking.
- Start packing non-essentials. Out-of-season clothes, books, décor, spare dishes.
- Label as you go. Write the room and a few contents on every box. "Kitchen – pots / everyday dishes" beats a wall of unlabeled boxes.
- Confirm your booking details — date, time window, addresses, and any specialty items like a piano or safe.
The day before
- Pack an "essentials" bag for each person: medications, chargers, a change of clothes, toiletries, important documents. This rides with you, not the truck.
- Empty and defrost the fridge/freezer if it's coming with you.
- Disassemble what you can (or add disassembly to your service and we'll handle it).
- Charge your phone and set aside cash if you plan to tip.
- Clear pathways and reserve parking near both doors if you can — it saves real time (and money on hourly moves).
Moving day morning
- Do a final sweep of closets, the attic, the garage, and behind doors.
- Keep boxes closed and stacked by the exit so the crew can load fast.
- Point out fragile and priority items to your crew lead when they arrive.
- Protect floors and corners in high-traffic spots (we bring protection, but a heads-up on tricky areas helps).
- Keep kids and pets safe and out of the lifting path.
At your new place
- Decide where the big pieces go before the truck arrives — a quick floor plan means we place furniture once, not twice.
- Check off your inventory as items come in.
- Set up beds first. However the rest of unpacking goes, everyone sleeps well.
